SERVES 2-3
INGREDIENTS:
7 oz sirloin or fillet steak
FOR THE MARINADE
5 tbsp dark soy sauce
2 tbsp sesame oil
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp sesame seeds
vegetable oil,for cooking
1 spring onion, finely shredded, to garnish
1. Beat the steak gently on a board with a steak mallet or the bottom of a heavy pan until it is about 1/2 in thick
2. Combine the soysauce, sesame oil, garlic and honey in a shallow bowl and stir in the sesame seeds until all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed.
3. Add the steak to the bowl with the soy and sesame mixture and turn it several times to ensure that it is well coated with the marinade and the sesame seeds. Cover and leave to marinate for an hour.
4. Heat a griddle pan or frying pan over high heat, then add a little vegetable oil. Remove the beef from the marinade, allowing the excess to drip off, and lay it in the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until it is browned and only just cooked.
5. Transfer the steak to a serving dish, garnish with the spring onions and serve immediately.
